Matt,
We have a doc that does this too - he had the 2nd icat in town (after us). Quite frankly, it doesn't seem to hurt us - but we never had his business anyway. We are going to be seeing more and more of this, that's for sure.

Matt: although this is a disapointment to you, I bet it will bring more patients to your lab. Other dentists will feel the need to compete, and want to send out for services.
This is going to happen more and more. Every city will have muliple scaners avalible, but only labs remain nutral and avlaible to all of the dental comunity.
You do not have to compete against a free scan! Within two months of purchasing the i-CAT over two years ago, my largest referral purchased his own i-CAT. At first, it seemed devastating and then a strange occurance happened. We started receiving referrals from other implant specialists in the area who wanted/needed the i-CAT scans to stay competitive about using the latest technology and were unable to justify the purchase. Craig is right.
By the way, this blog is read by and is for all i-CAT users, both imaging centers and individual doctor owned practices.
The more I think about it (and in light of your comments), I've come to the conclusion that this doctor may actually be doing me a favor! He's spending HIS money to inform the people of my community that a CT scan is the standard of care for implant patients. Thanks you guys!
